Emotional Connection over Good Gameplay
A lot of friend slop games fall into this category of having it where the emotional connections mattering more than the gameplay being that the friend aspect or having other people to rely/ hang on being the social hangout point of the game where the strength of the game mattering less and the strength of the social bond mattering more.
That is the power of friend slop and other games similar to this idea for the given thing at hand with the emotional bonds mattering more to people; people with weak social bonds will move on very quickly from these kind of games.
Social bonds and connections allowing for the stronger moments to shine through for the given group that the encounter for the moment to moment gameplay they feel. This leads to emotional highs and social connections unlike many other gameplay sessions that are a given strength and power for the results at hand for what they feel.
In other words; if you enjoy spending time with your friends, the faults of a game, a movie, etc. will not be seen as easily but looking at a game, movie, etc. yourself is easier to spot the issues with the media you are engaging with. Not counting media that is genuinely enjoyable.
This is why when a group wanted me to watch Shadow of Eminence with them that they didn't realize they didn't enjoy the anime; they enjoyed the social bonds they had gotten from watching a show together. People often times rate a show higher if they're enjoying something together versus alone from what I've seen.
People sharing a strong emotional bond matters more than the media itself and we latch our emotions from that experience onto the media even if it didn't evoke it. It is harder to experience media when you are enjoying it with a group.
Many families versus critics you see what is expressed/ mentioned within a review with little to no substance versus what a critic will mention. This is also coming from a perspective of self where games I'd enjoyed with a group is not the same as enjoying it alone.
The two carrying very different experiences in hand. Can you honestly rate a movie or a show from a non-social experience? Yes.
Is it harder to do so? Also yes. Unless you overthink things like me; in that case no you can easily tell if it is good or not.
Rocket League is not a good game; it is enjoyable with friends however. Same thing with 100% Orange Juice.
If you care about playing a good game; focus on it's quality. If you care more about the emotional connections; find the best friend slop game that you can.
